Welcome to INSDS Lab at UTRGV!

The INSDS Lab is dedicated to developing intelligent dynamical systems that promote sustainable hazard mitigation for built environments. To achieve this goal, our research focuses on energy harvesting and vibration control devices, which enable the sensing, monitoring, and control of civil structures subjected to natural hazards and extreme loading events, such as earthquakes, windstorms, and floods. This multidisciplinary research area lies at the intersection of structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, and offers vast potential for technological innovation in the hazard mitigation of civil structures. Our intelligent dynamical systems will ensure the resilience and sustainability of civil structures through their reliable and efficient performance.

Dr. Mohsen Amjadian is an Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering and the Director of the INSDS Lab in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). Prior to joining UTRGV, Dr. Amjadian was a post-doctoral fellow at the City University of New York (CUNY) from 2019 to 2021, where he conducted research on the application of electromagnetic energy harvesting systems in transportation infrastructures. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from CUNY in 2019, a master's degree in Earthquake Engineering from the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) in Tehran, Iran, and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Razi University in Kermanshah, Iran.

The INSDS Lab's research interests are:

1. Structural Dynamics and Control

2. Structural Health Monitoring

3. Energy Harvesting

4. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

5. Computational Modeling and Analysis of Structural Systems subjected to Multi-Hazard and Extreme Events
